Let's take a look at what I watched and read at the start of the year. Watched Watched Cosmic Baton Girl Comet-san episodes 3-7. Still on carrying the legacy of its predecessor series, it does still bear the idea of letting kids learn from joyful experiences outside of school or classes . Watched Attacker You! episodes 12-29. I'm enjoying this show more after You left middle school and joined a pro team away from Daimon. Less slapping, more of sport connecting people who support each other to grow. Watched Whisper of the Heart . The source material is a shoujo manga from Ribon , so in some ways it feels kind of different from other Ghibli films I've seen. Like, much emphasis on depicting the mundane modern (for its time) urban Japan setting. Now, I want to read the manga. Funny that nobody seems to have ever licensed this manga despite having a Ghibli adaptation? lol Finished Kimipre . There are some things I expected it to do that it ends up don't. ...

I'm still contributing to The Indonesian Anime Times staff members’ favorite anime, characters, and music of the year list. I'm not sure if I can still contribute for 2026, as I plan to adjust my viewing plans in a way that may reduce the number of shows I'm watching as they air. Still, here are my contributions for the year 2025: Staff Hal's selection includes some short anime aired on YouTube! pic.twitter.com/Np4zhoCZgu — The Indonesian Anime Times by @kaorinusantara (@idanimetimes) January 1, 2026 Short series can be some easy choices to catch up on in a short time. Meanwhile, though there is no unanimous choice among all staff members, The tally is nine titles with more than one pick, the highest being Silent Witch with three. Very, very, last, Hal is passionate about something. pic.twitter.com/tE84q0TG10 — The Indonesian Anime Times by @kaorinusantara (@idanimetimes) December 31, 2025 April Showers Bring May Flowers has fun character interactions. But I can...

The material from my panel is now available as an article in Comic Frontier's zine . If you can read Indonesian, you may check it out there. And now, for the stuff I watched and read in the last month of the year. Watched Finished rewatching Myriad Colors Phantom World . Ishidate always directed my favorite episodes in this show. But it's also funny that series director Ishihara did the storyboard for the most meta episode. Watched Kimipre episodes 42-45. The Kaito and Kazuma plot actually gets resolved earlier than I expected it would. Watched Princess-Session Orchestra episodes 32-35. The Alicepians being energy beings with physical forms that have a different conception of life and death is a somewhat unexpected detail. Watched Genmu Senki Leda . It's a fine stand alone feature that makes as good use of bishoujo, mecha, and love story elements together. Also, Inomata Mutsumi's bishōjo design is truly sophisticated, it feels timeless. Started watching...

This month was a busy one with the panel and stuff, but that didn't mean I couldn't continue to read and watch things. Watched Finished Miracle Girls . The show doesn't really have that many multi-parters, but the finale being a four-parter is pretty standard for a series of this length. The Diamas royal family plot that has been set up a couple of times since the first episode is brought to conclusion. I wonder how much of it has been determined from the start when it's still handled by the first director. Considering one story arc had a guy who wants to lead espers to take over the world, the scope of the finale appear more reserved in comparison. Even if they got caught up in a monarchy's politics, the core drama is ultimately about mending a broken family relationship. Watched Kimipre episodes 39-41. Since this season has an idol theme, I can't help but to think about Nana's dilemma between the invitation to study piano with her mother in Paris and...

If you're in the Greater Jakarta area, I'll be having a panel about manga categorization in the upcoming Comic Frontier 21 on Sunday (November 16) afternoon. In the meantime, here are some of the stuff I watched or read in the month of September. Watched Watched Miracle Girls episodes 23-40. After losing the first director for 12 episodes, they got Touch and Yawara 's director to take over by episode 30. The comedy gets noticably more slapstick in some places. But the story also gets into a pretty serious arc when an esper guy approaches the girls for his plot to take over the world with other espers. I like it that they give more screentime for the girls' mom in a couple of episodes, though. Watched Kimipre episodes 34-38. Making an episode that tie up to an IRL event is a pretty neat synergy. The reveal of Jogi's relation to Kaito also makes the direction of their character arcs more clear. Watched Princess-Session Orchestra episodes 25-27. I like tha...
